Swim Lesson Observation Policy

Please join us in the Spectator Section of the Pool Area on the first and last scheduled classes of the swimming session.  We welcome your excitement and enthusiasm. During all other classes the Spectator Area will be closed to minimize distractions to the class and improve the attention of the swimmers. Observation First and Last Day Only

Course Descriptions

Water Babies*

This is an opportunity for parents/caregivers and their child (ages 9-24 months) to socialize.  The soothing water provides a fun time for both adult and child.  The children enjoy songs, movement and music while the adults benefit from conversation and connecting with others.

Parent/Child*

This is an opportunity for parents/caregivers and their children (ages 2 - 4) to socialize and have fun with songs and games in the water.  In addition to the socialization, the children will greatly benefit from the exercise and will usually follow the class with a nice sound nap!

*All children who are not fully toilet-trained must wear a diaper, elasticized vinyl pant and swim suit. 

Preschool 3, 4 and 5

This is a child’s (ages 3, 4 and 5) independent water experience.  We will explore many aspects of the water including:  safety, entry and exit, buoyancy, breathe control, front and back float, and leg and arm action.  Children must be toilet trained.  

Level 1

Introduction to Water - All participants must be four (4) years of age or older and have passed the Preschool Level.  This course will include blowing bubbles, opening eyes underwater, floating on back and front with recovery, alternating arm action and kicking, & safety rules.

Level 2

Fundamental Aquatics - All participants must be five years (5) of age or older and have passed Level 1.  This course will include jumping into shallow water, submerging entire head, picking objects off of bottom, breathing rhythmically, gliding front and back, rolling over, combining arm and leg action and safety rules.

Level 3

Stroke Development - All participants must have passed Level 2.  This course will include jumping into deep water from the side, entering head first from the side, rotary breathing, survival floating, changing direction, treading water, front crawl, butterfly kick, back crawl, and safety rules.


Level 4

Stroke Improvement - All participants must have passed Level 3.  This course will include diving from the side, feet-first surface dive, open turns with streamline position, front crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, back crawl, elementary backstroke, scissors kick, and safety rules.

 Level 5

Stroke Refinement - All participants must have passed Level 4.  This course will include shallow diving from the side, pike and tuck surface dives, flip turns, treading water with different kicks, front crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, back crawl, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, survival swimming and safety skills.

Level 6:  Fitness Swimmer

This course includes a pre and post assessment of each swimmer.  Tools for training will include:  pace clock, pull buoy, and fins. Discussions included are:  principles of a fitness program, training techniques, and target heart rate.  All ages welcome.
